We invite those who completed the introduction course to join us to further their woodworking knowledge. This course will reinforce the skills already taught and introduce new furniture-making techniques while building an Arts and Crafts design small Bookshelf. Four legs and post and panel case construction will support and showcase a piece to fit in any tiny space.

PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR WORK

This workshop will take you through the basics of photographing your work in a studio setting. You will learn basic camera function, how to use lights and best practices for showing your work as well as the basics of editing your photographs for web and print.

Topics covered include basic bookkeeping, filing and accounting methods for self-employment; pricing your work; the essentials of how to develop a good portfolio, including a discussion on photography and

digital photo editing; best practices for working with galleries, selling your work on the web, commissions for custom work, and working with interior designers; effective tools for marketing and promotion, beyond websites and the internet; commission contracts; scheduling work; state and federal taxes; sales tax; best methods for shipping work; different approaches for setting up your first woodshop or studio; and general

business planning. Different types of shows for selling work and the details and logistics required to do a show effectively, including booth design will also be discussed.

INLAY WITH JANET COLLINS

This two-day workshop will explore inlay as an option for decorative detail for furniture and cabinetry. The historical significance of the various designs will be part of this course. Learn the basic principles and tools used for the following designs: stringing, compass star inlay, line and berry design and gouge cut inlay with the opportunity to practice the
basic procedures of each design presented. No experience is necessary for this class, however a basic understanding of woodworking is suggested.

Learn stair and handrail mathematics, design considerations, and construction techniques for different types of staircases, and layout a set of stairs. There will be hands-on experience from cut lists through mortising and assembly.

COMPUTER DESIGN

INTRODUCTION TO SOLIDWORKS

This class will focus on design for manufacturing: designing sheetmetal, machined components, injection moldings and castings -- skills companies look for in their potential employees. You will learn to solve real-world problems encountered in product design and leave able to design products and communicate design intent through drawings.

INTRODUCTION TO GOOGLE SKETCHUP FOR DESIGN

This class will introduce participants to Google SketchUp. The user will gain a basic competence using SketchUp to design basic site plans and mock up basic structures or landscaping plans. This intensive is good for students interested in using SketchUp for their own design purposes or to provide clients with basic, professional plans as part of engaging contracts prior to starting work.
