STUDENT SPOTLIGHTS

Spend time working in the shop, playing pool after lunch, or sipping coffee in the common areas, and you'll get to know the talented students here at the Vermont Woodworking School. Here's a glimpse into what just a few of our Immersion Program students are up to both in the shop and in the Green Mountains,

Spring 2018: Kate is a third semester Immersion Program student, from Boston, Massachusetts. This semester she is taking Design Studio II and is building a curved birch veneer desk with four drawers (pictured here).

What do you like about VWS?
"The strong community. There is so much support from both faculty and fellow students. You always have people to bounce ideas off of or to push you to the next level."

What do you plan on doing after leaving VWS?
"Working in a shared shop space in Burlington [Vermont] for awhile, but eventually I hope to find a position with a furniture maker. Someday even open my own shop!"

How do you spend your time when you're not in the shop?
"Mostly at the shop! When I'm not here, I spend time with my friends playing games or going to our local dive bar. Now that the weather is warmer, we like to go swimming or hiking up in Smugglers' Notch."

KATE DAVIDSON

Spring 2018: Bryan is a third semester Immersion Program student, hailing from just down the road here in Cambridge, Vermont. This semester he is taking Design Studio II and is building a unique bookcase with three drawers.

What do you like about VWS?

"The supportive environment of both teachers and students...The variety of work being produced at the school has been great inspiration."

What do you plan on doing after leaving VWS?

"I would like to eventually have a small shop of my own."

How do you spend your time when you're not in the shop?

"Taking my dog on hikes, spending time with family, playing guitar, listening to music, camping, motorcycling, and driving around in my old VW camper van."
